Money Well Spent

for Senior Design Class and VIP Projects for Electrical and Computer Engineering  at Howard University

Dr. Charles Kim : Custodian

Situation:  Senior design class and VIP project courses focus on project-based experiential learning.  Therefore, the students in the courses conduct projects, and the projects are intended to produce presentable, demonstrable, and hopefully marketable products.  There need parts and components to implement the final products.  The department has some budget which could be used for parts/component purchase, but the inner process of conveniently, and most importantly, timely purchase and delivery of them, is very slow and, often, they arrive (if they are approved for purchase) after the end of the project period.

Need: If there is a fund to be used for direct parts/components purchase without using the internal budget or through the inner process, they can be timely delivered to the students, which would make the experiential learning much more successful.  This would lead to much broader impact of training and educating the STEM students to become better prepared for practical engineering.

How can you spend your money well:  There are many options for Senior Design and VIP projects: (a) You keep your principal and allow only the gains to be used or transferred to a non-profit organization (which would be founded upon this option selected), (b) Upon my request, you purchase the needed parts/components and have them mailed to my department office, and (c) your own way of spending your money well.
